CHIC SIDE GIRL

So, life was humming along quite peacefully and happily. I had just moved back to the Bharat Bhoomi after a decade in Lovely London. This was succeeded extremely (and some say unnaturally!) quickly by falling in love and settling down with hubby and 79 pairs of shoes, in this slumcity of dreams called Mumbai. I had transferred with my multi-national accounting firm to India, so I continued to spend my days poking my nose into e-ledgers and enveloped in the mercurial world of accounting standards.

Completing 11 years at the job and turning 30 were the catalysts for me to decide that it was time to take a risk and listen to my heart. Isn’t life such a cliche? Somewhere along the way, my love for fashion had turned into a need for style. Suddenly, I started noticing not just what the other women in the room were wearing, but rather focusing on what worked for them and what didn’t, what could be changed to make them look even better. Thus began the journey of experimenting on friends and bless them, none of them ever took my "free advice" the wrong way. And, lo and behold, I discovered the newest passion of my life. Making women look the best they possibly can. Making them feel gorgeous.

Of course, this was not an overnight event. Many factors that played a role in the buildup. Firstly, I’m a born and bred South Delhi girl. You can take the girl out of Delhi, but not Delhi out of the girl - that means, we like looking good at all times. Yes, even to go pickup the newspaper from the door! Add to that my beautiful mum, from whom I inherited my love of colour and accessories, who bred the style basics of non-blingy elegance into me early and who taught me the joy of having fun with clothes. A decade spent in the capital of sophisticated fashion, London, refined my aesthetics further – I learnt about the beauty of clean simple lines and the art of grown-up sexy, without the compulsion of skin display. And now that I’m in Mumbai and much more comfortable with my body than I was in my 20s, I’m allowing myself to be tempted towards the casual chic that Mumbaikars have made their very own signature style. What this means is what my Mum has often told me is true : Every day and every event deserves its own style.

So come, let’s discover together each one of your styles. Yes, those are the ones that will make you feel The Best Version Of You.
